April 2013 - September 2013

POLY5 elaborated tools related to the planning, building and management phase of an infrastructure life-cycle. This activity led to the definition of a masterplan, made of single tools, for the integration of major infrastructures into local territories.

Each tool has been developed with the same characteristics: main challenge and aims, methodology description, strengths and weaknesses, target groups, beneficiaries and stakeholders. The variety of tools ranges from the study on environmental impacts mitigation, to the development of a transnational transport decision support system; from the analysis of strategic plans for local tourism and economy enhancement, to the creation of a territorial Observatory to monitor socio-economic developments of an area affected by a major construction site; from the enhancement of sustainable mobility because of the presence of a rail infrastructure able to move thousands of passengers, to the re-thinking of logistics planning for freight transport.

POLY5 will release the polycentric development toolkit a generalization of the single tools built through the practical experience of project partners. The toolkit will be a comprehensive web application designed for any public or private subject that needs to deal with the many challenges represented by the construction of a major transport infrastructure. Project partners will also be engaged in testing the tools through the local implementation of pilot actions.
